OUTPATIENT PROGRAMS FOR ADOLESCENTS/ YOUNG ADULTS WITH EATING DISORDERS

Our comprehensive IOP programs for adolescents/young adults offer a dedicated space designed to support those aged 12-19 on their journey to recovery from eating disorders. Recognizing that recovery often requires more than individual therapy, our program offers a structured environment that integrates a holistic approach to treatment. By addressing the needs of each individual, we create a nurturing atmosphere that fosters healing through various therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, family involvement, and peer support groups. Here, young individuals and their families can find the resources, skills, and community necessary to navigate the complexities of recovery together.

Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program for Eating Disorders

The Adolescent Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is specifically designed for adolescents/teens ages 12-19. The IOP is appropriate for individuals who need more support than individual therapy alone at this stage of recovery or who are transitioning from a higher level of care.

The program utilizes the bio-psycho-social-spiritual treatment model and looks at the whole person to obtain healing. Each day consists of a supportive meal, process group, skill group, resourcing, and goal setting. In addition, we offer a variety of treatment modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Enhanced (CBT-E), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Radically–Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT), somatic resourcing, and nutrition education. The program is highly structured to provide a comprehensive treatment experience.

Family support is a vital part of eating disorder recovery as we follow the Family Based Treatment (FBT) phases. Parents are required to attend the weekly Multi-family group on Thursdays and part of each therapy and dietitian appointment throughout their loved ones’ time in the IOP.

The Multi-Family Treatment Program (MFT) for eating disorders is a weekly group designed to intensify skills, education, and support for families with a loved one diagnosed with an eating disorder.

Each week includes a supportive meal, education, process time, and group activities for families working towards recovery for their loved ones. All group members benefit from the support and solidarity created as they spend time with other families facing similar challenges. MFT incorporates evidence-based coping skills, social skills, and eating disorder recovery strategies.

The Adolescent/Young Adult Eating Disorder Connection Group is designed to provide adolescents and young adults opportunities for experiencing group support as they work towards recovery.

The program utilizes the bio-psycho-social-spiritual treatment model and looks at the whole person to obtain healing. The program includes both process and skills group support, and benefits those in step-down from a higher level of care or those who need additional support and could benefit from a group setting.

The RO DBT class is a weekly group specifically for individuals suffering from emotional and behavioral overcontrol. Individuals fit for this treatment have a very high level of self-control, defined as the ability to inhibit urges, impulses, and desires. This is often a highly valued trait in our society as it helps us work towards more long-term goals. Most of the time, self-control is great; however, too much self-control can be problematic and lead to mental health concerns, including eating disorders, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, depression, and hyper-perfectionism. In RO DBT, we call this excessive self-control or overcontrol (OC). Overcontrol has been linked to social isolation, poor interpersonal functioning, hyper-perfectionism, rigidity, risk aversion, lack of emotional expression, and difficult-to-treat mental health problems.

This class offers a setting for clients to learn and practice RO DBT skills to increase engagement in social situations, which leads to a more value-centered life.

FBT is the leading evidence-based approach to help families with adolescents struggling with eating disorders. FBT is based on the belief that parents play an important role in the treatment of eating disorders and are an integral part of the treatment team. The aim of FBT is to equip parents with the tools to help their loved one recover and return to normal life. To participate in this form of treatment, parents must agree to take an active role in the treatment process.

The program includes weekly individual family-based therapy sessions, family group therapy, and dietitian appointments. In addition, our team works closely with medical providers, schools, and caseworkers to provide complete and full care to each individual client and family.

The Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) group is a once-a-week program created to offer clients diagnosed with ARFID specific support for their diagnosis. Each week includes a supportive meal, process group, skills group, and nutrition education. Families are also included in a support group that allows space for all to share concerns and struggles related to ARFID.
